How to make peace with your father
How to make peace with your father – If your father has passed away
(If your father is alive – Read here)
One – Do the same as if he were alive, in your mind – imagine the whole conversation, both ways, in real time, with your father ‘sitting’ opposite you.Your mind cannot tell the difference between something that happens in ‘reality’ and something it imagines with emotional intensity.
Remember your aim here – it is to be at peace.
So, in your mind, it will be real.
Two – Find somewhere quiet, relax and be at peace. Cover yourself mentally with a purple cloak, or curtain, make it a very deep purple, large and sweeping, and let it flow all over you. Breathe, relax.
Now, allow people who you have argued with, fallen out with, hurt, or been hurt by, to enter your mind, one by one. Perhaps start with a teacher from your school days. Acknowledge them as they come into your mind, and look at them for a few seconds. They are some distance away from you, it is like watching them on a cinema screen. Now, let them go, see them disappear from your mind forever, and as you do, say to yourself, out loud or simply in your head “I choose peace over this.”
Next, allow your father to enter your mind. Acknowledge him as he does so, and look at him for a few seconds. He is some distance away from you, it is like watching him on a cinema screen. He is smiling at you with love and joy, as if he really misses you. Now, watch as he steps out of the cinema screen and slowly walks towards you. He sits next to you, and you hold hands.
And as this happens, say to yourself, out loud or simply in your head “I choose peace, and I choose you.” Stay together for as long as you wish, and then let him go in peace, back onto the screen and then watch him walk away.
Finally, say to yourself with total love, “I allow this moment to be as it is” – slowly, three times.
