My wonderful Aunt Beryl writes a poem for any occasion – these are usually happy ones – birthdays, weddings etc.

When I asked her if she would write one about Peace and Hope, well, here it is…

LOVE KINDNESS HOPE AND PEACE

Events the past few weeks have shocked the world beyond belief
People running, crying, dying, escaping for relief
A nation losing buildings of every different kind
Civilians, now no homes for them, they’ve left them all behind

Why destroy this beautiful world with ever-changing scenes
Mountains, lakes and hills and rivers, seas of blues and greens
Flowers, trees, amazing colours, for us all to view
Animals and fish and birds, how wonderful, it’s true

Bombing, shooting, killing, burning, not the way to go
Life is so important, love and kindness put on show
Talk to one another, and respect each other’s views
Do not steal or fight, there are much better ways to choose

I like to think we will return to happy days again
My wish is so important and it’s very very plain
Forget the hate and anger and the very evil ways
My wish is that there’s hope for peace in all our future days
