SPIKE – Strengths Positively Identified Kick-start Excellence

We can all look back at the help, advice and guidance we have received in our lives, our career and our relationships.

Some of it has proved helpful, and some less so. Indeed, have you noticed how many of the people who give us tips on life never actually implement them for themselves?

And then we have what I call ‘the moments’. Those seconds, sometimes even less, when our lives change forever.

This happened for me in the summer of 2001, when I was having a coffee with René Carayol in One Aldwych hotel, London, in the summer of 2001. To cut a very short story even shorter, I was seeking René’s advice on what to do next. He said:

He looked me in the eyes and said: “Write a book”

And then he stopped talking!

He then asked if I would like two other pieces of advice

I said yes please and, with my pen poised, heard him say:

2. “Write a book”

And

3. “Write a book”

So I did…

I believe to this day that the success of Naked Leader would never have happened without that advice.
