It’s Very Hard To Tell A Lie With Our bodies
So next time you ask someone a question, watch closely for their physical reaction – they will think you are simply listening intently to what they are saying, which is fine!
e.g. To your teenager – “Did you get home on time last night – I didn’t hear you come in?” While they say the words “Yes, of course”, watch their head movement – if they didn’t, they will likely shake their head slightly, from side to side.
Or in reverse, an often used police technique:
“Were you anywhere near her house yesterday evening?” – the suspect may say “No” and while doing so, give a a very slight nod.
As human beings, we need to be consistent, and it takes a great deal of effort to tell an untruth. Apparently it’s called Cognitive Dissonance – a psychological phenomenon that occurs when a person holds two contradictory beliefs at the same time.
With my love and best wishes to you all
David
