Make Sure You Are Capable

CAPABLE and culpable might be similar sounding words. That, of course, is where the similarity ends as they mean very different things, and in business, without looking ahead and managing in a capable way you run the risk of your business failing to prosper for which you will be culpable.

Strategic capability is being imaginative in thinking where you want your company, or part of it, to go. A long-term view which puts aside short-term gain to ensure the longevity and the continued success of the business.

Having a vision, setting objectives, determining and managing courses of action, and maximising resources available to ensure you reach them. Sounds simple doesn’t it?

Of course, the strategic capability of a company depends solely on the capability of its managers. People who display high levels of strategic capability know exactly where they are going and how they are going to get there.They know they have to think ahead, to create and sustain their sense of purpose and direction.

So, decide what needs to be done, why and how. Then who should do it and when.
