‘One Panel + Four Experts =?’

At a recent seminar, the first session comprised of an ‘expert’ panel on the subject of ‘Growing Pains – Corporate Growth through Brexit’.

I was excited – creating certainty in uncertain times is our obsession.

All 4 panellists pretty much said ‘There is no hope…too many hurdles…the recession that Brexit will cause will last well over 3 years’

Over coffee a CEO friend came over to me, looking very unhappy – “Hi David, hah! One panel and four experts gave me one of the most downbeat, depressing, doom and gloom hours I have ever spent in my entire life.”

I was so tempted to respond with, ‘you really should get out more’. However, loving his 3 d’s alliteration, I smiled warmly and said:

“And by the look on everyone’s faces I think most people agree with you”

He said “Yes, and that last speaker even said that no-one knows what will happen next, and that is the most depressing reality of all.”

I said to him: “Yes, I heard – isn’t it fantastic? One Panel and four experts gave me one of the most wonderful, exciting, opportunity laden hours I have ever spent in my entire life.”

“Brexit is what we make of it” I said to him – “let the others moan and groan and complain and go out of their minds – they are the ones that will go out of business”

We finished our coffee together, me smiling at him and him looking at me wondering why I was smiling at him.

No event has any meaning other than the meaning we choose to give it. And that choice is one of the most important, powerful and life-changing decisions we can ever make.

Brexit is a reality – a reality that directly led to Naked Leader 3 times more, and we are now working with leaders we would previously only have dreamed of partnering with.

After all, no-one knows what will happen next, and that is the most exciting reality of all.

Because we can shape it.
