When I had a proper job, I came home at pretty much the same time each evening. And my two cats knew – ‘Ah David’s home – feeding time’, and they headed towards their bowls. And I followed and fed them.

Since Naked Leader, I come and go much more often, and arrive home at various times during the day, and into the evenings.

The challenge is that no matter what time I arrive home, our present two cats think – ‘ah David’s home – feeding time’, and they head towards their bowls.

It might be just an hour since I last went out and returned, but to them, its feeding time!

I walk in

The cats appear, and look at me expectantly

I explain to them in very clear language that I fed them only an hour ago and whatever they think, ‘say’ or do, they are not getting any more food

With that, they head towards their bowls

I walk with them, explaining again that I am NOT going to feed them

They keep walking and sit at their feeding station

I go down on my haunches and tell them again that it is not time for more food

They don’t budge – and look at me as if I am an idiot

And I feed them!

Leadership moral of the story: Its not what you say, its what you do!!!

Cats Health Alert: In case you think we have two very fat cats, we don’t. What they haven’t spotted is that each additional service is very small!

Please don’t tell them!
