Who you gonna call?

Time to Read 30 seconds – Time to Do – a heartbeat

Last week a man I was coaching made a very brave decision.

Having not spoken with his brother for the last ten years, he phoned him.

Not to say sorry, not to focus on why they fell out all that time ago, rather just to say “Hi, how are you?” and “Fancy a drink sometime?”

His brother was overwhelmed by the call and responded with an emotional  “yes”.

In this season of family, friends and forgiveness, who are you going to call…?

With love to you all

  1. That is some inspirational stuff. Never knew that opinions could be this varied. Thanks for all the enthusiasm to offer such helpful information here.

  2. Very important to keep in touch with people you love and not to hold grudges. Otherwise, you will end up going to your grave with a rift about what, exactly? Communication should work on all levels. Worse is if your member of family dies and you haven’t made up.
My mother fell out with her sister. And my mum’s sister wouldn’t speak to her. It was very upsetting. And then my aunt died. Thankfully, by the time she had died my mum had started to ring every now and again, and although she got a frosty reception she took comfort from the fact she made the effort. She felt so much better about that when at last, she had to face up to her sister’s death.

  3. I enjoy the nature of these weekly samples from David.
I too fell out with a friend and have recently got back together with them. Life’s too short is such an easy thing to say but it is absolutely true.

  4. Perfect the right thing to do
I fell out with my father (family history complicated) and we did not speak or see each other for 10 years.
One day I was near where I he lived on business and had a meeting cancelled.
I called him to see if he would speak to me, I ended up staying the night and we had 10 more great yaars of a new relationship before he died. he got see see all of his granchildren.
The 10 years were a sad loss in retrospect but we never looked back.
Pick up the phone – don’t be the one to prolong the the pain

  5. It’s odd isn’t it… I would argue wholeheartedly that families should not fall out. My Aunt and Uncle did so badly after their parents death and it took ten years for them to be properly resolved.

My partner is now refusing to speak to her Grandfather who effectively brought her up after the grandfather effectively stole money from his (grandfather’s) aunts pension fund.

All very complex but I think Christmas is definitelty a time for forgiveness and whilst we need not and should not forget we should always forgive.

Happy Holiday season to you all.
