founder of naked leader
Action For The Week
IF deciding whether or not you can be both leader and manager, find out your capabilities because normally, your strengths lean towards one thing or other.
Ask yourself these questions.
1. Where do you think your attributes/capabilities lie?
2. Are there skills you can develop that can compliment your existing strengths.
3. What leadership skills do you need to acquire?
(Extract from Managing People)

I think you can be both a manager and a leader. One doesn’t necessarily have to be detached from the other.
Managing people is very different to leading people.
Leaders have a certain quality that managers can only aspire too.
They have the vision that managers, who are doing a job that many others could do, are not necessarily blessed with.
This debate is a futile one.
There is room in this world for both.
One normally becomes the other. It’s a national progression.
Having the ability to do one normally means you can do the other.
Leaders and managers can be the same although I agree you can be one or the other.
Leaders are almost appointed by others because of the way they act. They gain respect.
A manager is placed in a position and asked to manage. Anybody could do that.
