A Two Letter Word Needing Context
Time to Read: 31 Seconds
Naked Leader Week 1049 – 13 November 2023
No event, or thought, or word has any meaning other than the one you choose to give it.
For example, the whole meaning of the following sentence changes depending on the emphasis you give to each word:
‘I didn’t say she stole my money.’
One of the most frequently used, simple words, is ‘we.’
Every time you, me, or anyone uses that term, it is vital to define who ‘we’ applies to, otherwise it can lead to misunderstandings and confusion:
‘we’ as in this team?
‘we as a project?’
‘we’ as in our organisation?
And of course by extension the same need applied to ‘our’
When I was working in Cornhill Insurance, every time I said or wrote ‘we’ a colleague – Mandy Tancock – always asked who I meant by ‘we’!
And to be fair, she had a very good point.
Mandy, if you are reading this, sorry it’s taken me so many years to share!!
With thanks to Mandy and my love and best wishes to you all
David
