A Letter To Amy

Dear Amy,
I hope you won’t mind my writing you an open letter like this. It’s just that you are such an inspiration to me, and so many others, about what is possible in life, I kind of had to…
We first met in 2016 when you were at university – and the outcomes you have achieved since, with absolutely no help from me, include:
- A First in Broadcast Journalism Master’s degree – studied part-time while holding down a full-time job.
- Assistant Producer and now Producer with talkRADIO.
- An extraordinary audio documentary about Fibromyalgia, Lady Gaga and your mum – https://www.fibromyalgiapodcast.org.
When we first met you had a massive fear of public speaking – you said: “I get really nervous and can’t get out what I want to say, especially if it’s planned, it just goes out of my head. I tense up, because it’s something I don’t like, and I think about it.”
So, what did you do, just a few weeks later? With great fear, anxiety and trepidation, you only went and opened a Prince’s Trust Young Ambassadors event!
You are the very example of Susan Jeffers’ ‘Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway’ .
Anyone reading this – if you have a fear you want to overcome, don’t confront it – welcome it in, embrace it, and then do it anyway. Once you have, it will scare you no more.
Amy, your love for your family, your persistence in overcoming obstacles and for living your life as an adventure are an inspiration to everyone who knows you.
So, why feature you today, over five years since we first met?
Well, there I was on the BBC News website and scrolling down to videos, I saw one headed ‘Three generations, one chat about women’s safety’ with Amy Heather. ‘Oh’ I thought, ‘that’s a coincidence, I know an Amy Heather, surely not…’
