What is Leadership?

When I started in this leadership business, I used to run five day Leadership Academies, and on day one I used to facilitate a session on the difference between “leadership”, and “management” – I asked people to come up with their own ideas, and thoughts.

We most often concluded that “leadership” is about who you are, “management” about what you do.”

In recent years I have dropped such a session (not least because my leadership events are now much more fast-track), and then I was in Saudi a few weeks ago, and someone asked the question.

And it quickly became apparent that perhaps the conclusions of a few years ago may not apply today.

I once did a NL Week that said, who cares, get on with taking action and achieving results.

So, focusing on “Leadership”, in the fast moving, knowledge obsessed technology world, what is it?
