I find it ironic that every 5th November we ‘celebrate’ something that never actually happened! What five project management errors did Guy make that we can learn from today? He and his fellow conspirators failed to…

1 – Win over the support of key influential power players

2 – Mitigate risk for unexpected… and expected challenges

3 – Control communications in terms of what can be shared, with whom, when and how – the plot was leaked through an anonymous letter from one of his ‘loyal’ team

4 – See the scale of the project and with so few resources – leading to burnout and failure – or actually, in this story, no burnout!

5 – Avoid ‘hero’ syndrome – GF was not brilliant at empowerment

Mind you, he certainly left a legacy – remember, remember the 5th of November…
