It’s all about you!
Time to Read – 1 Minute 30 seconds
(Some of you were a bit slow last week!)
It’s all about you!
That’s what I told a client this week!
We would normally take this as a sarcastic snipe, but really, the only person who really matters in achieving your goals is you and what will make you carry out the actions to achieve your outcome.
So find out about yourself – for example:
Are you a moving away from or a moving towards person? Then apply pain or pleasure accordingly.
Are you detail or big picture orientated – understanding which may help you to realise that, for detail people, you’re more likely to achieve your outcome if you don’t allow yourself to get bogged down or side tracked by the detail or, if you’re big picture, you may need to apply yourself to determining the small steps required along the way that you would naturally gloss over.
You might also be internally or externally referenced – what does that mean for you in your quest?
A deeper understanding of one’s self will also give valuable insight into your appreciation of others too, and what makes them tick – then you can work with these preferences instead of wondering why someone isn’t ‘with you’ when what you are saying is ‘really obvious’.
If you want any help in finding out – our NLP Workshop covers these and other concepts to help us relate to people who may be at the other end of the spectrum.
With my love and best wishes to you all
agreed, it is just ashame we don’t always realise that in the most important / critical situations, when the pressure is on!
I agree, the pressure is with you…not me!
Instinctively David, I look at the big picture. It’s important to make sure you know what it is you are trying to achieve, to get a vision in your mind of what your best case scenario for outcome is.
if you get involved in the detail too early, then you can lose your way and lose sight of what it is you are trying to achieve in the long run.
Once you get bogged down in the nitty gritty of something and lose that overall perspective then there really isn’t anywhere for you to go an you will fail to get the bigger job done.
Also, you can delegate the detail part while having a firm hand on the rudder so you keep going in the right direction.
Works for me.
You need the detail too, without it you won’t get to the big picture either!
It’s a balancing act.
I knew a friend who was always so busy with the little things in her life, she forgot about the bigger more important aspects of it and was constantly under pressure.
Burying herself in the detail is not conducive to helping yourself get on.
Forget the trivia. get with the programme. And make sure whatever it is you do not only takes you in the right direction but actually gets you where you intended to be.
Whatever that is, be it a project, task, journey or finishing a business plan.
I am moving away from a person at the moment.
Someone at work is trying to get closer to me and I am trying to avoid them.
I only get closer to people that I want to and which can work to my advantage.
The point is, it can often be about other people. Not just us!
It is about you as an individual.
Make what you want to happen yourself, nobody else is going to do it for you.
Of course detail is important. The overall picture has to be the overriding factor.
You have to appreciate where it is you want to go. Of course the detail in getting there is key. Lose the whole picture though, and you lose the whole objective and probably won’t make it to the place where you or your team need to be in the long term.
My life is all about me, for sure.
I allow others into it but essentially, I do what I have to do to get on. Don’t we all?
It’s all about whoever you want it to be to make it work.
