Here’s a wonderfully liberating thought. You never have to dislike someone simply because you think they might dislike you.

Weird, isn’t it? We hand complete strangers the remote control to our emotions without them even asking.

Instead, choose something that works.

Like them anyway. Be warm. Be generous. Be interested. If they’re wrong about you, your kindness may surprise them. If you’re wrong about them, you’ve just gained a friend.

And if nothing changes? You still win, because you’ve stayed true to yourself.

As a leader from Aon once said to me: “Never outsource your character to someone else’s opinion.”
