This Isn’t Bad News – It’s Great News

Articles on and offline continue to quote a 2015 article in the Harvard Business Review titled “Only 8% of Leaders Are Good at Both Strategy and Execution”, based on a survey of nearly 700 executives.

The solution offered by almost all is that organisations must ensure their leaders are good at both.

NO – that thinking is medieval, stuck in the Dark Ages of traditional consultancy.

I offer a more scientific approach – running our organisations in the way that our people actually are – a Human First approach.

How?

Not by learning not from me, but from a 7-year-old girl – Helen – at a school in London last year. My topic was ‘Unleash Your Powers Within.’

I said:

“Have you ever noticed that you are great at what you love doing and you love doing what you are great at?”

The first reaction was from Helen, who simply shouted.

“Duh”!

Now, more than ever, organisations need to get the very best from their people, and the place to start is to unleash the no.1 strength, talent, superpower – you choose the word – in ALL your people, not just a chosen few, and ensure they get to apply it at work.

Duh!
