Ditch The Amber

In project traffic lights, red means stop, green means go… but amber?

What does that even mean?

Half-stuck? Half-hopeful? Or a combination of the two!

A project is either done and live, or it’s not

Let’s stop pretending with in-between signals

Clarity wins – it’s time to ditch the amber – for good

Of course, you may disagree – please do so…

With my thanks to my great friend Paul Chandler

I have sent photo

and my love and best wishes to you

David

  1. A project in itself is either running, underway, or stopped, therefore green or red in your article. I have never seen traffic lights for that meaning. They can be used to convey a status, where everything is running well to plan within set boundaries of spend against progress, green, slightly outside, amber or forecasted to go horribly wrong, red. When you have many projects underway, it helps focus on those that need focus and not waste time on those you don’t. When you’re looking at a portfolio of 100 projects you need to know where to spend your time. Horses for courses.
